All music, consciously or not, is influenced by what comes before it. In the 1960’s there was a underground Garage Rock movement who’s music could easily be released today, with almost nothing different. We are currently living in a time period where Garage Rock is having a revival and the bands involved are substantially more successful then their predecessors. A lot of what Split Tape releases is directly influenced by these 60’s groups. However, whats interesting is that many people, including those involved in the revival know anything about the first wave of Garage Rock. We’ve taken the liberty of finding, in our opinion, five of the best Garage Rock songs that no one knows.

The Enfields//I’m For Things You Do

They’re from Wilmington, DE and never made it out.

The Hangmen//The Girl Who Faded Away

This song sounds like something The Growlers might put out on their next record. They were formed at a junior college and called the British embassy to find their singer.

The Pirates//Cutting Out

The only information that we found on them was that they were based in California.

The Sparkles//No Friend Of Mine

Formed in Texas they were active from 1957-1972, with this song being released in 1967.

Steve Walker and The Bold//The Train Kept a Rollin’

This is a cover of the Yardbirds classic.
